Node Lead, Remanufacturing & End-of-Life Reuse

Dr. Mike Thurston leads the Remanufacturing & End-of-Life (EOL) Reuse Node at the REMADE Institute, where he guides applied technology research and industry integration of advanced remanufacturing technologies and methodologies. He also serves as the Director of the New York State Center of Excellence in Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing (COE-ASM) and Technical Director at the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at RIT.

Dr. Thurston has decades of experience in remanufacturing in the areas of design, product use-phase performance and health monitoring, and remanufacturing process technologies. His expertise includes significant experience in technology development for governmental stakeholders, having worked extensively with the U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Naval Research, and Marine Corps.

Prior to his work in research, Dr. Thurston worked as a Product Development Supervisor and Noise & Vibration Engineer for Delphi-Harrison Thermal Systems. The combination of Dr. Thurston’s expertise in both technology research and the product development process equips him well to lead the Remanufacturing & EOL Reuse Node.

Dr. Thurston holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
