Lee Coates Director of Remanufacturing at Rivian, Inc.
 

About Lee:

A career manufacturing and green energy professional, Lee began his career in production at Seagate Technology, building hard disc drives, later managing both production and engineering teams in printed circuit boards, and then transitioning to the solar industry, building thin film solar panels at OptiSolar/NovaSolar.

In 2013, Lee joined the EV industry at Tesla Motors. While at Tesla, he was responsible for teams in General Assembly, End of Line Repair, and Sustaining Engineering prior to joining their Remanufacturing Team. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of a global effort, Lee oversaw the remanufacturing of hundreds of batteries, drive units and invertors each week and a staff of over 200 engineers and technicians in the US, Europe, and two locations in Asia.  

In 2021, Lee joined Rivian’s Remanufacturing Team, where he has been tasked with overseeing the launch of the department from a basic battery/drive unit triage location to a full-fledged remanufacturing facility in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, which is remanufacturing batteries, drive units and power electronics.
